DIAZ YOUTH CELEBRATES HARMONY DAY APRIL 2010
Blacktown, NSW - April 2010
Harmony Day celebrates
the inclusive nature of Australia and promotes the benefits of cultural
diversity. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship supports their
continuing message ‘Everyone Belongs’ and has been promoting the event since
1999.
The 2010 theme ‘Express Yourself’ was celebrated
with The Diaz Foundation’s Annual paper chain crafts for children under ten
years of age along with our Foundation’s Annual medal making competition. Local
children enjoying their school holiday break joined in the fun and crafts.

RELAY FOR LIFE 2009

The Diaz Foundation once again supported the Cancer Council this year as team
members worked together to help raise funds and walked the track at
Blacktown Olympic Park. The event was attended by many cancer survivors, carers
and friends who support cancer councils fight to make a difference.
The candlelight ceremony of HOPE was held at dusk. Candles are placed lovingly
inscribed with messages from family and friends. The candles are then placed
around the track to signify our remembrance those who have lost the fight and to
inspire us to keep the fight going against cancer.
The event was co-ordinated by Cancer Councils Great Western Sydney office's Jo
Cheesman. ence Award this year.

JESS DIAZ ELECTED COUNCILLOR OF BLACKTOWN CITY COUNCIL

Atty. Jess Diaz becomes the new councillor in the City of Blacktown in
the City of Blacktown in the recently concluded Local Government Elections in
New South Wales, Australia.
Councillor Jess Diaz is the first Philippine-born and first Asian elected
councillor of Blacktown City. He is also the first Filipino-Australian
City Councillor in Australia. Councillor Diaz said, "I am humbled and
honoured to serve as Councillor in the City of Blacktown. I thoroughly
enjoyed meeting the residents during the campaign and learned of the concerns
and problems in our local community."
RANA AL SHILBY WINS DIAZ AWARD

Congratulations to Rana Al Shilby of Plumpton High School who won the
Diaz Excellence Award this year. Three previous winners from this school
are now practicing attorneys. Pictured below is Josie Diaz with Rana Al
